Yep, its time for Total Tuesday – the one day per week I give the detailed play by play..
Today was a rainy day in the ‘burgh. I woke up in a cranky mood, not sure why. It could have had something to do with the incessant banging outside my bedroom window. I live on what would appear to be a very shaded, quiet street. However, there is constantly either banging, hammering, lawn mowing, leaf blowing, etc, occurring. WHY?
Today there was work being done to the surface of the street one over from mine. It was loud and annoying and started at 6AM.
In reality, I keep thinking I might be dehydrated from the heated yoga I have been doing on Monday nights. Can slight dehydration cause crankiness or am I totally out of my mind? Hmmm, should do some research on this.
Trying to improve my mood, I opted for a new TJs buy for breakfast, Lowfat Granola with Almonds.
I enjoyed about 3/4 C of this with skim milk, strawberries, and half a banana. The granola has a light, vanilla taste. The other half of the banana was enjoyed with a spoonful of TJs almond butter. This was also my first time trying almond butter. To be quite honest, I was never really sure why everyone in blog-land was eating almond butter. Lower in fat or something? A quick google search provided me the following details:
(From the Barney Butter website, a popular brand of almond butter – to note, I purchased the TJs brand, not Barney Butter. This info is for a 2 T serving.)
|Barney Butter||Peanut Butter|
|Ahah! Saturated fat….|
Ok, decent stats. I like the less saturated fat deal, and the fiber and extra vitamins. A straight out of the jar taste was surprisingly sweet. However, on the banana, I am not sure how I felt about the butter – I bought the crunchy and I thought it was more like ‘gritty’ and a little slick on the tongue. I am not giving up on the AB though. I think I will find I like AB better on some things and PB better on others.
The AB breakfast must have done something good – I didn’t even think about a morning snack. It was 12:30 before I knew it. I had packed half a TJs whole wheat pita with edamame hummus (another new TJs product – tasty, has an earthy salty kick), goat cheese, mixed greens, and the least chemically laden packaged turkey breast I could find. I haven’t had turkey in awhile. It kind of got lost in the sandwich. I think it made the lunch more filling though, which was good. I also had some baked blue corn tortilla chips, a few strawberries, and 3 small pieces of dark chocolate.
The afternoon at work was dragging and I decided to download some new Itunes podcasts. Splendid Table has always been one of my favorites. I also used to like the podcasts the Post-Gazette was doing – ‘Dining In, Dining Out’. However, there has not been an updated PG podcast in some time – perhaps they are no longer occurring? Anyways, I read somewhere that Jillian Michaels (Biggest Loser trainer, author, etc) had podcasts. I had trouble finding them – you must search Itunes for KFI AM (the LA radio station her show is on) and then subscribe to the Sunday show. From there, you can choose to download the Jillian ‘casts.
I listened to two Jillian podcasts while blowing through some paper this afternoon. I find her to be a bit intense and extreme but still appreciate her knowledge and straightforward nature. I think I will listen to more of these podcasts.
Through the afternoon I snacked on some ‘ginger chips’ (also from TJs – shocker!). These are paper thin super spicy slightly sweet pieces of ginger. I could only do a few pieces but they were kind of addicting – I kept eating despite the fact that my eyes were actually watering. Yes, I have ginger issues. I also had a cup of Yogi ginger tea. Ginger overload!
Around 4PM I started feeling a bit ravenous and had a cashew cookie Larabar.
After work, I headed to The Boy’s. He is actually in town this week! He usually travels M-TH, every week. I planned tonight to be a rest/non-gym night so I could get more Boy time in :). We were also kind of celebrating the one year anniversary of The Boy purchasing his house. Congrats love.
Around 7PM, we sat down to a super casual dinner. The boy grilled up some seasoned steak and we did steak fajitas.
I had one fajita on a whole grain tortilla. This included about 4 steak strips, peppers, onions, tomatoes, a little FF sour cream, and some 2% cheese. Of course I then munched another steak strip, a handful of chips, and some salsa. I also had about half a glass of red wine.
The Boy and I are now relaxing, watching a Planet Earth DVD and enjoying some cool juicy watermelon. Not too bad, for a Tuesday :).
